An Option for Online Privacy

Do you think about your privacy online? As much as I love accessibility to data on people, places, and things, I hate the idea that anyone can find me with a few clicks and the right websites.

There are so many sites aggregating information from public sources. They’re not doing anything illegal. They’re simply gathering data and then offering to interested parties.

My colleague Eli Rosenblatt has a solution for this. His new company TRACE-X finds your information on these sites and has it removed. The service is for people who have a lot at stake and need to reclaim their privacy. Examples of people who could benefit from the service:

  • medical professionals with difficult patients
  • attorneys with problematic former clients or opposing parties
  • entertainment professionals or elite athletes
  • executives
  • high-profile law enforcement or security professionals
  • high net worth individuals

How it works: They contact over 100 “people finder” sites and have your data removed. They go back each month to make sure that your data is still not there, and if it has popped up again, they have it removed again. It’s not cheap because there are so many sites and it’s a largely manual process, but it’s worth the money if you’re worried about your privacy.
